Learn Songwriting from
a Professional Singer-Songwriter
Do you try to write songs by starting and never quite finishing them? Do you get the feeling that your songs are not quite cutting it – that they could be better? Would you like to take your writing to the next level? Learn how to ‘beat the block’? If so, I can help.
I’ve been a singer songwriter for 25 years and involved in tutoring and mentoring songwriting since 2003. I’ve taken songwriting workshops throughout NZ at festivals, high schools, polytechnics and the Adult Education Centre @ Wellington High School. I've recently upskilled and studied Commercial Songwriting through USA's Berklee College of Music and I continue to work with many aspiring and professional songwriters with contemporary techniques that could help you with your own music, at whatever level.
If you're serious about getting better at writing songs, get in touch.

"My music education company has hired Charlotte Yates on many occasions to teach our students the fundamentals of lyric and songwriting.. Charlotte has a program that is very well liked by all our participants and her manner in getting the message across is also well received ... many of the people I had in to teach songwriting were too academically inclined with no real music industry experience ... I can't speak of Charlotte highly enough..."
"Starting lessons with Charlotte has turned out to be one of the most positive decisions I've made in the last few years. I'd found myself really missing the special place singing had occupied in my life as a child, and was looking for a way to 'find my way back' to my voice. However, as an adult, the thought of actually fronting up and singing in front of anybody else was pretty daunting. I needn't have worried though, because Charlotte's approach to teaching is so encouraging and unhurried. With my initial focus on singing subsequently morphing into also learning guitar and experimenting with song-writing, these lessons have opened the door to a much broader sense of creativity in my life generally. I now can't go for too many weeks without my 'hit' of musical learning!"
